The band was formed by Jonny Yerrell (vocals), Joe O’Brien (guitar), Lee Holland (bass), and Jamie Todd (drums). Early on, they built a following through local gigs, social media promotion, and independently released singles, without signing to a major record label. Their early tracks such as “Low Life,” “Kids Off the Estate,” and “On the Back Burner” gained traction online and helped them develop a loyal fanbase across northern England. The band’s sound mixes indie rock, garage rock, and post-punk revival, often drawing comparisons to bands like Arctic Monkeys for their sharp lyrics and guitar-driven style. In 2021, The Reytons released their debut album Kids Off the Estate, which expanded their audience and established them as a rising act in the UK indie scene. Their breakthrough came with the second album What's Rock and Roll?, released independently and reaching No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, an unusual achievement for a fully independent band. The success highlighted their strong grassroots support and touring popularity. In 2024, they followed up with Ballad of a Bystander, continuing their mix of energetic indie rock and social commentary. Today, The Reytons are known for high-energy live performances and a strong fan community, performing regularly at festivals and headline shows across the UK while maintaining their independent ethos.
