The True Batushka is an extreme metal/black metal band originally formed in Białystok, Poland in 2015 by multi‑instrumentalist Krzysztof Drabikowski. Their music merges atmospheric black metal with a ritualistic, liturgical aesthetic inspired by Slavic Orthodox church traditions, creating a powerful, immersive sound and theatrical live experience. The band gained cult status with their debut album Литургия (Litourgiya), which combined dark metal with ecclesiastical influences, complete with monastic visuals and lyrics in Old Church Slavonic. Their music and stage presentation evoke a ceremonial, almost sacred atmosphere that distinguishes them in the extreme metal genre. After internal disputes and legal battles over the band’s name, The True Batushka (led by Drabikowski) continues to perform under the original creative vision and identity of the project. As of 2026, they are touring Australia with exclusive shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
