The Waifs are an Australian folk-rock band formed in 1992 in Albany, Western Australia, by sisters Donna Simpson and Vikki Thorn (née Simpson), alongside guitarist Josh Cunningham. Known for their warm harmonies, storytelling lyrics, and rootsy acoustic sound, the group built a devoted following through relentless touring across Australia and North America. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1996, followed by Shelter Me (1998) and Sink or Swim (2000), which established their reputation on the festival circuit. The band achieved national breakthrough success with Up All Night (2003), which peaked at No. 3 on the ARIA Albums Chart, went double platinum, and won four ARIA Awards, including Best Independent Release and Best Blues & Roots Album. The hit single “London Still” became one of their defining songs. The Waifs co-founded the independent label Jarrah Records with the John Butler Trio and their manager Phil Stevens in 2002. Later albums such as Sun Dirt Water (2007), Temptation (2011), Beautiful You (2015), and Ironbark (2017) further cemented their place as stalwarts of Australian folk music. In 2025, the band announced a new regional tour celebrating over three decades together, reaffirming their enduring appeal and authenticity.
