THE WAILERS are a legendary reggae band originally formed in Kingston, Jamaica and are widely recognized for carrying forward the legacy of Bob Marley and the Wailers into the present day. Although rooted in the iconic group that helped bring reggae to the world stage, The Wailers today are a distinct touring and recording ensemble celebrating decades of reggae history with a mix of classic material and contemporary work. Originally founded in 1963 by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer, the name The Wailers became globally synonymous with roots reggae and songs that spread messages of resistance, unity, and love across generations. After Marley’s death in 1981, members of the original band continued performing under various formations; from this, The Wailers Band evolved, led for many years by legendary bassist Aston “Familyman” Barrett and, more recently, by his son Aston Barrett Jr., who serves as the group’s musical director and bandleader. Today, The Wailers perform worldwide, blending timeless reggae classics with new material and celebrating key moments in their history — such as the 50th anniversary tour of the landmark album Rastaman Vibration. Their enduring presence reflects both their deep roots in the original reggae movement and their ongoing influence as one of the genre’s most recognized and respected acts.
