The Whitlams are an acclaimed Australian indie rock and piano rock band formed in Sydney in 1992. Fronted by singer-songwriter and pianist Tim Freedman, the group became one of Australia's most successful live acts through their literate songwriting, emotional storytelling, and piano-driven sound. Named in honor of former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, the band rose to national prominence with the multi-platinum album Eternal Nightcap (1997), featuring the iconic hit "No Aphrodisiac," and continued their success with albums including Love This City and the ARIA No. 1 album Torch the Moon. Despite lineup changes and personal tragedies early in their career, The Whitlams have remained a fixture of Australian music, known for their energetic live performances, orchestral collaborations, and enduring catalog spanning more than three decades.
