Bio
TOPS are an indie pop/rock band from Montréal, Canada, formed in 2011 by Jane Penny and David Carriere and now consisting of Penny, Carriere, Riley Fleck and Marta Cikojevic. Emerging from the city’s DIY indie scene, the group built a reputation for sophisticated, melody-driven songwriting that blends emotional lyric themes — such as relationships, alienation and power dynamics — with smooth, breezy sophisti-pop arrangements. Their debut album Tender Opposites (2012) earned critical praise and helped establish them within the international indie circuit, followed by releases like Picture You Staring (2014), I Feel Alive (2020) and Bury the Key (2025), the latter showcasing darker disco-tinged elements while retaining their signature polished pop sensibility. Over more than a decade, TOPS have developed a dedicated fanbase through self-produced recordings and touring, becoming a notable act within modern indie pop and alternative rock circles.
