Wednesday is an American indie rock band from Asheville, North Carolina, formed in 2017 and led by songwriter and vocalist Karly Hartzman. The project started as Hartzman’s solo work before expanding into a full band with members including MJ Lenderman, Xandy Chelmis, Alan Miller, and Ethan Baechtold. The band is known for its distinctive blend of shoegaze, noise rock, indie rock, and alt-country, paired with vivid, narrative-style lyrics that often explore Southern life, memory, and personal storytelling. They released early projects like yep definitely and I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone, before gaining major critical attention with albums such as Twin Plagues and Rat Saw God. Their later work continues to push a mix of distorted guitar textures, country influences, and emotionally raw songwriting.
