Wintersleep is a Canadian indie rock band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, formed in 2001. Originally a side project for vocalist/guitarist Paul Murphy and guitarist/keyboardist Tim d’Eon, the band quickly grew into one of Canada’s most respected indie rock acts, known for their emotive songwriting, dynamic live performances, and atmospheric sound. They released their self‑titled debut album in 2003 and followed it with several acclaimed records, including Welcome to the Night Sky (2007), which earned them the Juno Award for New Group of the Year in 2008. Over the years, Wintersleep’s lineup evolved to include Loel Campbell (drums), Jon Samuel (keyboards/guitar/backing vocals), and Mike Bigelow (bass/keys). The band’s music blends melodic indie rock with ambient and alternative elements, producing songs that range from introspective ballads to soaring, guitar‑driven anthems. Their catalogue has earned them critical praise and a loyal following across Canada, Europe, and beyond, with standout tracks such as Weighty Ghost and Amerika gaining widespread attention.
