Writhing is a Melbourne‑based death metal band formed in 2019, committed to crushing heaviness, dissonant intensity, and raw sonic aggression. The four‑piece was founded by Joel (guitars) and Pat (vocals), who had previously played together in bands like As Flesh Decays and Rituals. They soon added Jackson (bass) and Jake (drums) to complete the lineup and push their sound forward. Their music blends elements of old‑school death metal and dissonant technical brutality, drawing influence from genre legends such as Cannibal Corpse, Incantation, Morbid Angel and modern peers like Tomb Mold and Skeletal Remains. Writhing’s 2022 debut full‑length album Of Earth & Flesh earned praise in the underground scene for its oppressive atmosphere, technical intensity, and relentless riffs. With a sound built on crushing rhythms, guttural vocals, and immersive heaviness, Writhing has quickly become a band to watch in the death metal underground — appealing to fans of both classic and contemporary extreme metal worldwide.
