Wang Yitai (王以太), also known by his stage name Wang Shanhuo, is a leading Chinese rapper, singer, and songwriter born on June 8, 1995, in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. A classically trained pianist (Grade 8) who later transitioned into hip-hop, Wang’s musical path began when he discovered rap during high school. In 2013, he moved to the United States to study music production and recording engineering, immersing himself in the local hip-hop scene before returning to China to pursue a professional music career. He joined the Chengdu Rap House (说唱会馆 / CDC)—a collective that has produced some of China’s most prominent hip-hop artists—and released his debut Ready To Flow Mixtape in 2015. Known for his articulate lyricism and refined delivery, Wang rose to national prominence after competing in 《中国新说唱》(The Rap of China) in 2018, where his melodic style and introspective storytelling distinguished him from harder-edged peers. In 2019, Wang released his acclaimed studio album 演·说·家 (Yan · Shuo · Jia), cementing his place in the new generation of Chinese rappers who blend soul, jazz, and trap elements. The hit single “目不转睛 (Mu Bu Zhuan Jing)” became a defining track, earning him awards such as NetEase Music’s Annual New Artist and Top 10 Songs of the Year, along with inclusion in the Forbes China 30 Under 30 (Music) list. Wang continued to evolve artistically through collaborations—most notably his joint 2021 album 幸存者的负罪感 (Guilt of the Survivor) with fellow rapper AIR (艾热). His 2024 studio album Love Me Later marked a major stylistic leap: recorded partly in Los Angeles, it features international artists such as Rich The Kid, Armani White, PJ Morton, and Tobe Nwigwe, showcasing his ambition to bridge Chinese hip-hop and global R&B. The “Love Me Later World Tour” (2024–2025) has taken him across Asia and beyond, with sold-out shows in Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, and Beijing. Despite controversy surrounding a canceled Taipei concert due to political sensitivities, Wang remains a key voice in modern Chinese hip-hop—known for weaving emotional depth, cultural identity, and refined production into his music. Lyrically, his works explore love, growth, self-reflection, and the pressures of fame, delivered through a balance of melody and introspective flow. Critics often describe him as the “Gentleman of Chinese Rap” (格调说唱贵公子), admired for elevating Chinese hip-hop with sophistication, authenticity, and emotional resonance.
