Miayla Marcus

Miayla Marcus is a London-based jazz harpist. Raised in a musically diverse environment with a strong influence of jazz, Miayla has long been drawn to the genres expressive and improvisational qualities. At 20, she relocated to New Orleans to immerse herself in its rich jazz heritage and performance culture. In New Orleans Miayla played with some of the finest jazz musicians in the city and refined her sound. Now back in London, she performs regularly across the city's jazz scene with her own ensemble, playing a mix of jazz and Latin jazz standards. Inspired by the pioneering jazz harpists Dorothy Ashby and Tadao Hayashi, Miayla's ensemble brings a warmth and texture to the music that surprises and moves audiences.

Miayla is today joined by a special guest musician from New Orleans. Their combined sound draws on the musical language of New Orleans, Latin America and contemporary jazz, bringing together the textures of the harp and clarinet. Rooted in years of playing together, their music has a distinctive voice that is warm, innovative and deeply expressive.
