Mutable Objects draws on the deep grooves of 70s funk and the adventurous spirit of free jazz, with The Meters, Parliament/Funkadelic, Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman among its influences. From there, the group forge their own divergent path. The result is a mix of deep grooves, Stravinsky-inspired angularity, Steve Reich-style repetition and the occasional harmonic wrong turn.
Expect improvised funk, strange harmonies, tangled rhythms and plenty of rhythmic misbehaviour.
Toby Wren (guitar/electronics), AJ Hall (bass) and John Parker (drums, found percussion/electronics) bring their various musical backgrounds together in search of grooves that are unpredictable, occasionally unruly, and different every time.
