Von Burl

Von Burl is the musical project of Leytonstone based singer-songwriter Karen Crum, originally from County Antrim, Ireland. Her earlier music attracted support from BBC Radio 6 Music and a session at Abbey Road Studios. After several years away, she spent 2025 and 2026 making her debut album, *Fault Lines.*

Produced by Adrian Hall (Tori Amos, Anna Calvi), the album was recorded live and instinctively at Angelic Studios with Patrick Murdoch (guitar), Tom Williams (bass) and Geoff Holroyde (drums). Completed in Belfast, it features harmonies from Mark McCambridge (The Arborist), Rachel McCarthy (The Darkling Air) and Emily Tracey, spoken word by Irish actor Lisa Dwyer-Hogg (Trespasses) and string arrangements by Joni Fuller. The record moves between alternative folk, americana and expansive, cinematic arrangements.

This show at ALTAR marks the first live performance of Fault Lines, ahead of its 2027 release. Its first single, Paranoia Blooms, arrives the following day - a dark, urgent and energetic reflection on disconnection in the modern world, it draws on influences from Aimee Mann's Momentum to Charlotte Gainsbourg's Deadly Valentine.

Original clay artwork by Northern Irish ceramic artist Martin McClure forms the album's visual world, with handmade ceramic merchandise available on the night.
