Ella Thompson is a Melbourne (Naarm)-based soul singer-songwriter who blends classic and contemporary soul, cinematic textures, and rich arrangements. She grew up steeped in soul traditions, guided early on by Renee Geyer, who became her mentor. Ella Thompson Her music is noted for lush instrumentation (blaring horns, lush vocal harmonies), hypnotic grooves, poetic lyrics, and a visual/performative element in live shows. After being part of indie bands (Dorsal Fins), electronic duo (GL), & collaborating with funk & soul collectives (e.g. The Bamboos), she’s been releasing under her own name, with albums/EPs including Domino and Ripple On The Wing.
