I Killed the Prom Queen is an Australian melodic metalcore / metalcore band originally formed in Adelaide, South Australia around 2000 (initially using names like The Rubiks Equation and Child Left Burning). Their early influences include late-’90s hardcore (Poison the Well, Converge, Hatebreed, Earth Crisis) and Swedish melodic death metal (At the Gates, In Flames, Soilwork) among others. Their first releases included the EP Choose to Love, Live or Die in 2002 and the split EP with Parkway Drive (2003). Their debut full album When Goodbye Means Forever… came out in late 2003, followed by Music for the Recently Deceased (2006). After internal changes and a hiatus, they later released Beloved in 2014. Over time, the band went through splits, reunions, and lineup changes. They disbanded in 2007 due to difficulties securing a stable vocalist and members’ commitments elsewhere (e.g. Jona Weinhofen joining Bleeding Through). They reformed for a farewell tour in 2008, then again in 2011 with new vocalist Jamie Hope, releasing Beloved in 2014. In 2025, they teased a 25th anniversary tour focused on their music from 2000 to 2008. Their music is characterized by a blend of aggressive breakdowns, melodic guitar passages, dual vocal styles (harsh and clean), and dynamic contrasts typical of metalcore, leaning also into melodic elements.
