Immanuel “Immy” Kwabena Dreessens‑Owusu is a Ghanaian‑Dutch Australian musician, singer‑songwriter and multi‑instrumentalist known for his vibrant and eclectic “Afrodelik” sound — a fusion of West African Highlife, psychedelic rock, funk, afrobeat and global rhythms. Raised on the Surf Coast in Torquay, Australia, Immy grew up between the coastal rock scene and the rich musical traditions of his Ghanaian family, giving his music a truly cross‑cultural edge. In 2016, he travelled to Ghana to study with his grandfather, legendary palm‑wine Highlife musician Koo Nimo, grounding his songwriting in ancestral music traditions while embracing his own contemporary influences. His debut album LO‑LIFE! (2023) draws on the work of West African greats like Ebo Taylor and William Onyeabor, combining hypnotic grooves, psychedelia and afro‑rhythms. Immy’s music has received international attention and airplay — including on BBC6, NPR, KEXP and Worldwide FM — and he was voted Music Victoria’s 2023 Best Musician and nominated for Best Regional Act, establishing him as one of Australia’s most exciting emerging world music artists.
