Persefone is a progressive and melodic death metal band from Andorra la Vella, Andorra, formed in 2001. Taking their name from the Greek goddess Persephone, the group quickly distinguished themselves with a blend of technical precision, aggressive riffing, and atmospheric passages. Their early work, including Truth Inside the Shades (2004) and Core (2006), established a conceptual and philosophical approach to songwriting. With Shin-Ken (2009), the band embraced Japanese themes and sharpened their progressive identity. Their 2013 release Spiritual Migration was widely acclaimed for its complexity and emotional depth, while Aathma (2017) further solidified Persefone’s reputation as innovators in progressive extreme metal, featuring collaborations with Paul Masvidal (Cynic). In 2022, they released Metanoia, showcasing guest appearances from Einar Solberg (Leprous), Angel Vivaldi, and others, continuing their reputation for ambitious compositions. The band underwent a major lineup change in 2023 when long-time vocalist Marc Martins Pia departed; later that year Daniel R. Flys (Eternal Storm) joined as the new frontman. Their first recording with Flys, Lingua Ignota: Part I, was released in February 2024. Persefone’s music often explores existential and spiritual themes, balancing aggression with melody. Renowned for their powerful live shows, they have performed internationally at festivals and headlining tours, bringing Andorra’s metal scene to a global audience.
