Skunkhour is an Australian funk and rock band formed in Sydney in 1991. The founding lineup included brothers Dean and Michael Sutherland, guitarist Warwick Scott, and later the Larkin brothers — Aya Larkin on vocals and Del Larkin as MC. Known for blending funk, soul, hip hop, and alternative rock, Skunkhour became a defining act of Australia’s 1990s urban funk scene. Their self-titled debut album Skunkhour (1993) and follow-up Feed (1995) gained critical acclaim, with standout tracks such as “Up To Our Necks In It” earning heavy radio play and cementing their reputation for groove-driven, intelligent funk. After the departure of Del Larkin in 1996, the band’s sound evolved into a more melodic style with albums Chin Chin (1997) and The Go (2001), which featured singles like “Home.” Despite splitting in 2001 due to label challenges, Skunkhour have reunited periodically for live shows, maintaining a loyal fan base. In 2025, they announced their “Up To Our Necks In It – 30 Years Tour”, celebrating three decades since their breakout hit. The band’s legacy continues as one of Australia’s most influential funk-rock acts, notable for their dynamic musicianship and socially aware lyrics.
