The Johnnys formed in 1982 in Sydney, Australia. They were founded by Roddy Ray’da (aka Roddy Radalj), Graham Hood, and Billy Pommer Jr. The concept was to play pub rock with a country twang, but at a punk-influenced pace — fast, loud, raw energy: a cowpunk style. Spencer P. Jones joined in 1983, later Roddy Ray’da left and Paul “Slim” Doherty joined. Their debut album Highlights of a Dangerous Life was released in August 1986, produced by Ross Wilson. Their second studio album Grown Up Wrong came out in August 1988. The Johnnys disbanded in 1989, though they reformed occasionally (e.g. for shows in 2004 and later).
