The Stress of Leisure is a band from Brisbane, Australia — originally the project of songwriter Ian Powne, it evolved into a full band lineup. They make music that mixes post‑punk, art‑rock and ’80s‑inflected indie‑pop, wrapped with witty, often politically or socially aware lyrics. Their sound is known for angular guitars, synths/keys, danceable rhythms and an “off‑kilter” aesthetic — somewhere between new wave, funky art‑pop and post‑punk.
