DJ Manchild (real name Ethan Hill) is a Melbourne‑based DJ, producer, radio presenter, and music curator known for his deep love of funk, soul, afrobeat, hip‑hop, disco and global rhythms. He’s been digging records and playing dancefloors in Melbourne and around the world since the early 2000s, bringing rare grooves, African funk, Latin beats and soulful sounds to listeners and dancers alike. He hosts the long‑running weekly show “The Breakdown” on PBS FM, where he shares funk, soul, afro‑funk and deep grooves from his enormous record collection — a journey through dusty 45s, afro‑beats and rare gems that reflect his adventurous taste and deep musical knowledge. DJ Manchild is also a co‑founder and director of The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, the acclaimed Melbourne afrobeat ensemble whose album Do Anything Go Anywhere was nominated for an ARIA Award. In the band he brings in percussion, turntablism and creative direction, helping shape their fusion of African rhythms, contemporary grooves and conscious music. Over his career he has supported and shared lineups with legends such as Sharon Jones & The Dap‑Kings, Nas, De La Soul, Grandmaster Flash, MF Doom, Mos Def, Roy Ayers and many more, spanning soul, hip‑hop and global music scenes.
